According to the American Cancer Society, there will be an estimated 1,958,310 new cancer cases and 609,820 cancer deaths in 2023 in the U.S. Among women, breast cancer is the most common type of cancer, aside from skin cancers, accounting for about 30% of all new female cancers each year. Women have a 1 in 8 chance of developing breast cancer. About 43,700 women will die from breast cancer in 2023 in the U.S.

Screening and increased awareness has made a significant impact in recent decades. Since 1989, breast cancer deaths have been steadily decreasing. But the decline has slowed and there is much more work to be done.
